The first version of my project called Vigipirate, took place on the studio's wall at the Cité International des Arts, few weeks after the Paris attacks on the evening of 13 November 2015. At the time of the attacks, I was Artist - in - residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts a few blocks away from Bastilia. The pattern, with all the formal elements, took its inspiration from the »Vigipirate« terrorism protection plan sign, that I saw attached on elementary school doors, at hotel doors, post office doors etc., and of course on the door of the residence I was living in. Vigipirate is France's national security alert system plan created in 1978 and since than, it has been updated three times. In 2014 the levels were simplified to »vigilance« and »attack alert«. The attack alert was used for the first time after the Carlie Hebdo shooting on 7 January 2015. It have the equilateral triangle form, with black contour. The inlays are red and white and at the bottom is written attack alert. Using the three colors and triangle shape as formal elements, I developed the idea of the wall as a continuum optical and organic movement. What shocked me the most, was the coldness, lucidity and coordination of the terrorists during the attacks. I have tried to represent this terrifying behavior with three coordinates that emerges with violence from the wall. Those are organic elements made with the mixture of oil color and hair on wood. The concept behind the wall with different patterns allows me to think of an ordinary and quiet space of an every day’s life. What happened in Paris that night, would always remind us that we could be in danger in every moment and everywhere, even in the bar with friend, football game with children or at the concert. storiesfromtheedge.org/Research/Story#30
